Commissioner of Education King was honored Monday by the Coalition of Immigrant 51�Թ��� (NYIC) and received the 51�Թ��� NEW Builders award.

Commissioner King and four other winners were recognized for their outstanding commitment and contributions NYIC recognized as the improvement of society through the promotion of civic participation, education, and leadership to the diverse immigrant community in 51�Թ��� and the General .

Under the leadership of Commissioner, the Department of Education of the State of 51�Թ��� has demonstrated a commitment to bilingual and English students.��For example, in the fall of 2012, it adopted the federal DREAM Act and drafted the Educational Equity for DREAMers Act, which was introduced in the State Legislature.��The Department continues to work through its policies and regulations to support and empower students of English language and bilingual students to succeed in the educational system of the state and graduate career and college ready.
