Statement from State Education Commissioner John B. King, Jr. on the Assembly's Action on DREAM Act Legislation
"The Board of Regents and I want to thank Speaker Silver and Assemblymembers Glick and Moya for advancing the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø State DREAM Act through the Assembly's Higher Education Committee. The DREAM Act has been and is one of the Board’s top legislative priorities.ÌýÌý
"Young 51³Ô¹ÏÍøers who are willing to work hard and study hard should not be denied educational opportunities simply on the basis of their parents' immigration status. The Board strongly supports legislation -- like the DREAM Act -- that will give undocumented students the opportunity to access higher education.ÌýTodayÌýmarks an important step toward making educational opportunity a reality for all 51³Ô¹ÏÍøers."
