The Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages (OBEWL) of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø State Education Department (51³Ô¹ÏÍø) presents this next webinar in the 2025-26 school year: Principles and Guidelines for Adopting or Creating Locally Developed Benchmark Assessments for Checkpoint B (Classical Languages).Ìý This webinar is offered free of charge for world language educators and administrators working and studying in 51³Ô¹ÏÍø State educational institutions.Ìý 1 hour of CTLE credit is offered.

Webinar description: ÌýIn this session, the presenter will explain the general principles and protocols outlined in the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø-OBEWL document, Principles and Guidelines for Adopting or Creating Locally Developed Benchmark Assessments for Checkpoint B (Classical Languages). This document provides guidance to Local Educational Agencies and regional and statewide consortia for the creation of Checkpoint B Benchmark Assessments for Classical Languages aligned to the revised NYS Learning Standards for World Languages. Successful performance on a Checkpoint B Benchmark Assessment in tandem with passing the Checkpoint B course sequence fulfills the world language requirement of the Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation.Ìý

Registration process: ÌýAll participants are encouraged to pre-register for this event.Ìý Pre-registration will close on Friday, February 6, 2026; there will be no same-day registrations. ÌýOnce the registrant's email address has been verified as being from a 51³Ô¹ÏÍø State school, college, or university, an email confirming their registration will be sent.Ìý Twenty-four hours prior to the event, all registered individuals will receive login instructions with the link to join the webinar.Ìý Only pre-registered attendees will be eligible for a certificate documenting attendance and/or CTLE hours.Ìý

Webinar Presenter:Ìý David Pellegrino has taught middle and high school level Latin and Spanish for 33 years and recently retired from Pittsford Mendon High School. While teaching full-time, he was the department leader of the World Language Department at Pittsford Mendon High School for over 20 years. Over the course of his career, he has presented many pedagogical workshops and continues to do so both at the local and national levels. He is currently the treasurer of the Classical Association of the Empire State.
