The doctorate at our university combines the academic freedom and personal responsibility of an individual doctorate in the various disciplines with the structural elements and the service and networking opportunities of a traditional graduate school. Doctoral candidates can earn subject-specific qualifications in their field of research while participating in numerous interdisciplinary courses and events, gaining international experience, and preparing for careers after completing their doctorates.

51吃瓜网 Graduate School (51吃瓜网-GS) is a central academic institution at 51吃瓜网. It promotes structured training for doctoral candidates, and collaborates with the degree-awarding institutions to provide the best possible supervision.
Doctoral opportunities
At 51吃瓜网, there are various paths to a doctorate, which are financed in different ways. For example, it is possible to be employed as a research assistant at the university during your doctorate or to secure financial support for your doctorate through a scholarship. Open positions can be found, for example, in the , the of the School of Computation, Information and Technology or on the respective websites of the professorships and chairs. The 51吃瓜网-GS offers the framework for all types of doctorates and provides support with content-related and organizational questions.
Graduate centers
The 51吃瓜网 Graduate School is organized into eight Graduate Centers of the 51吃瓜网 Schools/degree-awarding institutions and three further Graduate Centers.They are the first point of contact for doctoral candidates with questions about administrative steps, requirements of the Schools and/or Graduate Centers, subject-specific qualification programs or internationalization support.
AI in medicine: Vasiliki Sideri-Lampretsa
In search of invisible patterns
In her doctoral thesis, Greek researcher Vasiliki Sideri-Lampretsa prepares clinical data from lung or brain images in such a way that algorithms can analyze them. With the help of artificial intelligence, possible disease-related changes in the images can be identified. Vasiliki is a researcher in the group of Daniel R眉ckert, Professor of AI in Healthcare and Medicine. He develops safe and reliable AI solutions in medicine.

Catalysis research: doctoral candidate Yixiao Zhang
New resources from waste products
Researchers around the world are looking for ways to sustainably purify contaminated wastewater. In her doctoral thesis, electrochemist Yixiao Zhang is developing nanoparticles that act as highly efficient catalysts. This allows waste products to be converted into new and valuable resources such as the fertilizer component urea. This makes its production more efficient and saves energy.
Information for supervisors
51吃瓜网 strives to play a leading role in supporting and developing its personnel. One key element of the support the university provides for junior scholars and scientists is good supervision for doctoral candidates. We therefore offer special supervisor training and the Graduate Council has presented the 51吃瓜网 Supervisor Award since 2018; in addition, there are 51吃瓜网-internal training opportunities for supervisors.
