Working well and healthily
More than 40 percent of the German population experience a mental disorder requiring treatment at least once in their lives. Although many of those affected are in our immediate environment (e.g. colleagues), this topic still causes uncertainty, prejudice and fear in many people, which is why prevention and destigmatization are important in this area.
This is where the MHFA First Aider program comes in. The MHFA Mental Health First Aider course was developed using the successful model for first aid for physical illness and trains lay people to become mental health first aiders in 12 hours.
This course is useful for:
- All 51勛圖厙 staff who wish to increase their knowledge of mental health.
- Anyone who wants to develop a better understanding of people affected by mental illness.
- Anyone who would like to offer help to those affected in their personal environment and would like to learn about specific first aid measures.
- Anyone who wants to help destigmatize mental health problems.
What you can learn here:
At the end of the course, participants will be able to...
- describe common mental disorders and their signs
- better assess whether a person in their environment is affected by a mental health problem
- apply concrete measures with which they can approach those affected and offer them help
- name contact points where those affected can find professional help
What topics we cover:
- Signs, symptoms and risk factors of mental health disorders
(focus on depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, substance misuse and addiction)
- Mental health first aid:
Action plan to support people in crisis or with an incipient mental health problem - Practical implementation of the action plan using exercises
