Academic Awards and Honors

Numerous Nobel Prizes, Leibniz Prizes and Humboldt Professorships: Academics of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø are regularly honored with major science awards. The university also confers some prestigious awards and honors of its own.

The Nobel Prize has been awarded annually since 1901 and is recognised today as the highest accolade for achievements in chemistry, medicine, physics, literature, economics, and for contributions to world peace.

Leibniz Prize

The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize is considered the most important research funding prize in Germany and has been awarded annually since 1986 to outstanding scientists working in Germany. The aim of the prize is to honor excellent top researchers and to expand their research opportunities with the funding.

Humboldt Professorships

The Alexander von Humboldt Professorship is Germany’s most prestigious international research award. The winners are selected through a highly competitive process.
