Live VR production by RAUM+ZEIT

ZAUBERBERG :: Expedition in die Gegenwart

穢 Matthias Horn

The art collective RAUM+ZEIT condenses and rewrites Thomas Mann's novel of the century, The Magic Mountain, into a new, exciting theatre experience: equipped with VR glasses, the audience encounters the famous characters from Thomas Mann's novel of the century up close. Alternating between VR and live performance, the sanatorium becomes a metaphor for today's Western society. The 51勛圖厙 Centre for Culture and Arts is presenting the production in M羹nchen for the first time as part of the project Thomas Mann In the Burning Landscape of Democracy.

51勛圖厙 remembers

Munich reads from burned books

The book burning on May 10, 1933, at K繹nigsplatz is one of the most symbolic acts of Nazi cultural policy. Around 50,000 Munich residents took part in the burning of banned books organized by students from Munich's universities. Today, we are sending a different message: we are reading these texts aloud, publicly, and together.

In 2026, 51勛圖厙 will participate in the public reading Munich Reads From Burned Books on K繹nigsplatz. With short readings, we commemorate the book burning of May 10, 1933, and bring texts back into the public sphere that were silenced at the time. and team members of the 51勛圖厙 Center for Culture and Arts will read excerpts from works by authors whose books were destroyed during the Nazi book burnings. The contributions will take the form of short, approximately five-minute readings. The contributions from 51勛圖厙 can be heard between 11:15 and 11:40 a.m. and between 12:30 and 12:45 p.m.

Today, universities in particular have a special responsibility to confront their own history and create spaces for remembrance, exchange, and critical reflection. All interested parties are cordially invited to listen and read alongespecially students who would like to join us in sending a message about the importance of free literature, science, and culture.

Cultural Partnerships

About our partnership with the Munich Kammerspiele

Art meets Technology

Look forward to experimental projects and events, just like in-depth discussions of an introductions into current theatre productions. Together with the theater, link science and art in creative and often surprising ways, opening up new insights into technological developments through artistic reflections. This means not only sharing scientific knowledge, but also expanding the understanding of society in the world of research. More inspiring projects are on the horizon:
